BIOVAC Nepal is putting together portable devices that can detect and characterize pathogens respectively within the site of inspection. This eliminates the need for samples to be transported over long distances for tests allowing more time for intervention and mitigation of diseases. The handheld detection. The assessment results and data obtained can be geo-tagged and transmitted to a central database using 3G data transmission. We see the utility of this device in disease surveillance, outbreak situations and detection in areas where access to traditional laboratory equipment is limited.
